The Book Signing
At my recent
book signing, a fan asked me, “How do you write such believable characters?”
I said, “I
observe people and analyze their every nuance.”
That’s a lie. I base my
characters on TV shows. I don’t even
know what “nuance” means.
Another of
my readers said, “Your descriptions of scene and setting are so intricate. How do you come up with so much detail?” I said, “I travel the world, photograph
everything, and take voluminous notes.”
Not really. I watch the Travel
Channel. I think ‘voluminous” means “a
lot.”
One of my
followers asked one last question. “How
do you come up with your plot twists and surprise endings?” I couldn’t lie anymore, so I told the
truth. “I smoke a ton of weed.”
The book
signing was over, so all my fans filed out of the convention hall. All three of them.
